Verona18 Came Back Different
The single biggest change to the local dining scene this year is not a new opening. It's a reset. Verona18 is open to the public with a completely revamped dining experience under new operators, new food, and new menus. That's a meaningful pivot for a room that had been an inconsistent draw for people who don't hold a club membership.
For residents who default to The Square for a weeknight table at Bandit's, Griff's BBQ & Grill, Gold Dust Pizza, or a glass at Tipsy Frog Wine Bar, Verona18 is worth revisiting on that basis alone. The espresso bar, brunch, lunch, and dinner menus are now separate documents rather than a single all-day sheet, and the Thanksgiving-eve service and to-go order form are already published for November. The Barger Number, In Context
The other piece of local news that landed in June is the one most residents heard about secondhand at the post office. The 19th Annual Doris Barger Golf Outing, benefiting the Mark Twain Medical Center Foundation, surpassed $1 million raised for women's health services in Calaveras County since the tournament's inception in 2007.
The number itself is less interesting than what it represents in a rural county. A single event, one Sunday a year at The Golf Club at Copper Valley, has moved a million dollars through the local hospital foundation across 19 runnings. This year's participation included 31 golf foursomes and over 160 dinner guests, which is the actual population math behind the headline.

The Town Square calendar treats September as a series rather than a set of one-offs. Four Friday evenings in a row are programmed from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Square, giving residents a standing weekly outing without any planning overhead.
September 5, September 12, September 19, and September 26, all 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Town Square, Copper Valley. That cadence is new relative to how September usually reads locally, and it turns the walk-from-parking-lot-to-gazebo routine into a habit rather than an event.
The same Saturday as the second Friday, the equestrian side of town takes over. The 5th Annual 9/11 Tribute Obstacle Challenge is Sat 12 Sep 2026 from 8:00 AM at 82290 Steeplechase Drive, Copperopolis.
